Magnetic and ferroelectric properties of oxygen octahedron/tetrahedron mixed ultrathin multiferroic layer by oxygen desorption

BiFeO3 epitaxial films (tBFO = 1–10 nm) were grown on a LaSrMnO3 (tLSMO 70 buffer layer and capped with Ru or Ru/Al layer. The ultrathin film 3 was confirmed to be continuous flat over wide area. Piezoelectric response switching of spontaneous polarization observed in the by switching-spectroscopy piezoelectric force microscopy measurements. Using lock-in method modulation frequency 10 Hz x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), difference between left- right-circularly polarized XAS signals Fe L3 L2 owing magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). number XMCD peaks indicated that mixture oxygen octahedron tetrahedron (divalent trivalent) structures might formed. tBFO dependence revealed approximately 1 nm thick ferro-like properties emerged side BiFeO3/Ru interface. may partially extract from BiFeO3, forming an structure. bilayer exhibits both magnetism, which is promising as basic structure multiferroic tunnel junctions.
